Turning Childcare Frustration Into Solutions: Meet Raisin and Little Scout
If you’ve ever tried to find daycare in the Lower Mainland, you’ll know the drill. Hours spent Googling centres, firing off applications, joining waitlists you may never hear back from, and wondering whether you should have started looking before you even announced your pregnancy. Finding childcare can feel like a full-time job, just when you’re already adjusting to life with a little one. It is one of theeee biggest stresses I hear from moms in our community.
While there’s much systemic change needed here, two local families have decided there has to be a better way. Enter Raisin and Little Scout, two new platforms designed to take some of the stress out of the childcare search, each tackling a different part of the problem. And what I love is that the people behind them genuinely want to support other families.
Raisin: Your Spreadsheet alternative
Behind Raisin are Geetika and Shikhar, two Metro Vancouver parents who experienced the childcare scramble firsthand. After learning how early they needed to get on waitlists, they found themselves navigating different application processes, unanswered emails and an ever-growing spreadsheet. They built Raisin to help other parents manage the chaos without letting the search take over their lives.
Think of Raisin as your childcare search headquarters. The platform brings together licensed daycare centres across Metro Vancouver, allowing parents to filter by neighbourhood, their child’s age, care philosophy and cost. It also verifies listings against BC’s Ministry of Children and Family Development registry.
Once you’ve found potential options, Raisin helps streamline the application process by drafting emails for you to review and send. Its dashboard keeps track of applications and their status, while reminders help you follow up with centres when the time comes. There’s also checklists and guidance to help parents navigate the process, making it particularly useful for first-time parents who may not even know where to begin. Plus, their FAQ’s page is a must-visit if you’re just getting going… answering a lot of the questions you may have when starting the childcare search.
The goal? Less time building the huge spreadsheet, juggling tabs, and tracking down emails… because really that’s NOT what naptime should be for.
After chatting with Geetika and Shikhar, what I love is their genuine interest in helping other families. As a result, they’re particularly open to feedback too… so if you notice something you would love to see on their platform, send them a message.

Little Scout: Helping you find a spot when you need it
For Vancouver mom Ella Dalling, the lightbulb moment came after experiencing the same frustrating search while pregnant with her daughter, Murph. She realized how broken the system was, and wondered why daycare openings couldn’t work more like job postings: when a position becomes available, advertise it and let interested people apply. That idea became Little Scout, which launched in Metro Vancouver in 2026.
Little Scout takes a different approach by helping families find actual childcare openings you can apply to, rather than relying solely on waitlists and hoping for a call... and it’s the only platform that does this. And what’s more, the platform is completely free.
Parents can search by neighbourhood and their child’s age, browse reported vacancies and apply directly to openings with a specified start date. What’s more, everything is in one place: The platform also brings together daycare information, including licensing inspection records, google reviews, and other useful information to help families compare options. Parents can track applications in one place, while daycare providers can manage applications and communicate with families through their own dashboard. They’ve even expanded to other cities in Canada.
There are over 300 available daycare spots on Little Scout right now, all looking for families to fill them. By making vacancies easier to discover, Little Scout allows you to apply directly, without the endless phone tag and guesswork. As Ella says, “I can’t build more daycares, but I can help families find the spots that already exist. My big dream is to make daycare waitlists a thing of the past. I want finding childcare to be something parents can do when they actually need it, rather than years in advance.”
Amen to that!
Two tools, one less-stressful search
So, which platform should parents use? The good news is that it doesn't have to be an either/or situation.
Raisin is especially useful in the early stages, when you're building your list of potential daycares, submitting applications and trying to stay on top of follow-ups. It helps you get organised early, so fewer opportunities slip through the cracks.
Little Scout comes into its own as your desired start date approaches, when you're ready to find a spot that's actually available. Rather than simply adding your name to yet another waitlist, you can browse current openings and apply directly.
Of course, neither platform can magically create more childcare spaces, and finding a suitable opening still depends on availability, location, age and timing. But both are working to make the process more manageable and transparent for families. As always, you should always do your own research as the the quality of the daycares listed.
The childcare crisis is bigger than any one startup can solve. We need more affordable spaces, better support for childcare providers and broader systemic change. In the meantime, it's encouraging to see local parents turning their own frustrations into practical solutions for others.
And that, I love to see.
