Kids have an annoying little habit of growing out of things approximately five minutes after you buy them (or in my case, they’ll refuse to wear them until they are much too small!). The barely-worn rain boots, the expensive snowsuit, the dress they wore once and the pile of toys they suddenly declared “baby toys” all have plenty of life left. And before you know it, managing your kids’ clothing becomes a full-time job. Enter: kids’ consignment.
Why consign your kids’ stuff?
Um… Environment. Money. Efficiency? There’s no reason NOT to!
Consignment shopping is a great way to spend less on the things kids constantly need while keeping perfectly good clothing, toys and gear in circulation. And if your house is currently being swallowed by outgrown stuff, you can make a little money back by selling it, too.

The process is generally pretty simple: clean out → check the store’s current intake rules → book an appointment or drop-off → the store selects and prices the items → they sell them → you receive your share. The exact percentage, timing and rules vary considerably, so always check the store’s current policy before hauling your bags across town.
And honestly? There’s something very satisfying about turning a bag of toddler clothes that no longer fit into money for the next round of toddler clothes that will no longer fit approximately three months from now.

They carry pre-loved clothing from newborn through age 14, plus shoes, toys, books, sports equipment and baby gear.
Their model is particularly appealing for busy parents: you sign a contract, book a drop-off and they handle the photographing, pricing, listing, selling and shipping. You can shop online, hold your items, and they often share what’s coming up on Instagram too.
2. Little Earth Children’s Store
Little Earth Children's Store on Commercial Drive is a lovely option if you're looking for practical, good-quality kids’ clothing and gear with a more sustainable focus. Their selection includes clothing, footwear, rainwear, toys and gifts.
Little Earth is particularly worth remembering when you're hunting for Vancouver essentials - think rain gear, shoes, and clothing that can withstand actual toddler life, as they have brand new items too, such as Stride Rite, See Kai Run, Kamik, and Jan & Jul for shoes. Their consignment intake is selective, with limits on the number of clothing, shoe, book and toy items you can bring at once.
3. Beansprouts
Beansprouts on Main Street has been a Vancouver fixture since 2003 and combines beautiful new children’s products with a carefully curated selection of pre-loved clothing, shoes and other goodies. Their consignment selection covers newborn through age 12, with a focus on quality brands and current, wearable pieces.
Their consignment program is seasonal and appointment-based, so this isn't the place to rock up with six garbage bags and hope for the best. Shopping is available online too which is a huge bonus (& dangerous!). This one is a must visit!

If you’re “a bit fancier”, these two are a great option for more affordable high-end items. MacGILLYCUDDY'S in the Dunbar/Kerrisdale area is the spot to browse if your child’s wardrobe leans a little more boutique. They specialize in gently used, higher-end and designer children’s clothing, shoes and accessories, as well as toys and books.
They are selective about what they accept: clothing needs to be clean, current and in excellent condition, while shoes need to be in near-mint condition. Seasonal items such as rain gear, snowsuits, boots, dancewear and costumes are also popular categories. Consignment is by appointment.
